Forgiveness as a Starting Place

Rein Bos, in his book We Have Heard That God Is With You, says

Too often, forgiveness is understood as a whitewashing of past wrongdoings.  But forgiveness is not a “detergent with a unique double active formula” for our iniquities.  It is a gracous gift of God to make a new start.  Forgivenss is therefore not so much a finish line but a starting place. (bold mine)

I like that.

Our life is littered with broken relationships: with God, parents, siblings, friends, and even our spouse.  To get a new start, we need forgiveness from God.  And we need to offer forgiveness to others.
