Snow Day at My House

We were hit hard with snow today – maybe 8 inches – but what a wonderful snow day it is.  Our kids got an early start to the Christmas break, and had lots of fun in the snow.  Here’s a sweet bunch of neighborhood kids – all cold and happy!  The snow just let up, so now the snow blower must be fired up.

I still have memories of the Blizzard of ’78.  We lived in Massachusetts and the snow drifted over the roof in some places.  I loved snow the best when a half inch of ice formed over the top and then we’d go sledding and start at the south end of the elementary school on the hill and go all the way down to the woods on the north side of the play gound.  It felt like miles but probably only 200 yards.  What’s your best snow memory?

My best snow memory is Sharon and I walking down the middle of Sylvania Ave. in our Toledo neighborhood during the Blizzard of 78. We were both in our 30s and thought life would just keep going. Sylvania Ave is a busy big city street. It was deserted.

My best snow two-weeks was in the winter of 1941 or 42. Our family was snowed-in for two weeks. What fun.

Another snow day was in 1947 when the young people’s group of our church in Fremont came to our house for a youth function. The snow came down fast and fercious, so they all ended up stranded and staying for three days. Great memories!
