Is Obama an Evangelical?

Is Barack Obama an evangelical Christian? Christianity Today has published an interview with Mr. Obama that may suggest he is.  Here is the most important paragraph from the interview:

“I am a Christian, and I am a devout Christian. I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe that that faith gives me a path to be cleansed of sin and have eternal life. But most importantly, I believe in the example that Jesus set by feeding the hungry and healing the sick and always prioritizing the least of these over the powerful. I didn’t ‘fall out in church’ as they say, but there was a very strong awakening in me of the importance of these issues in my life. I didn’t want to walk alone on this journey. Accepting Jesus Christ in my life has been a powerful guide for my conduct and my values and my ideals.”

This leads to an interesting question: many Christians believe that it is important to have an evangelical Christian in the White House. If that is true, what if your choice in 2008 is Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney? Who will you vote for? I think this would decide once and for all if evangelicals are really concerned about having evangelicals in the White House or conservatives in the White House.

Well, I would never tell you who I plan on voting for. But I don’t think whether or not a person is an evangelical really sways my vote. When considering a president my #1 qualification is “Is this person a leader that commands respect?”

Romney is not a Christian (truly) in my opinion of course, based on his actions. You can call yourself anything you want. It’s your actions that define what you are. Romney doesn’t tell the truth. He fooled the good people of MA. for a reason, which will never be revealed. He has teamed up with Blackwater. He lied about immigrants on his property.
He is not who he sells himself to be. And, he is no follower of the real Jesus. He has time though.
