Parenting Teenagers, Part 6

In my last post, I made the claim that current psychological research confirms that parents should parent with a balance of love and discipline because this reflects the character of God. With “props” to Dr. Bob Lehman of Grand Rapids Theological Seminary who taught me all of this, here is what the research says:

Muslims Come to Jesus

I think you will find this thought provoking. The Big (Untold) Story in the Middle East:Muslims converting to faith in Jesus Christ in record numbers by Joel Rosenberg. At a minimum it might motivate you to pray for Muslims and pray for the Church in Muslim countries.

Here are two excerpts: Read the rest of this entry »

Failure or Fraud? Neither!

I’m new to pastoral ministry, and I obviously find it quite a bit different then my old job in a large corporation. It’s not harder (or easier), just different. Because it’s so different, I have some ups and downs as I grow accustomed to ministry.  My last seven days haven’t been the best, and this article really helped.

Parenting Teenagers, Part 5

Recently we have concluded that parents remain the number one influence in a teenager’s life. We also concluded that parents primarily influence their teenagers by modeling a biblically wise lifestyle (Deut. 6:4-9). “Heaven Is Not Our Home”

In the spirit of two wonderful books by Paul Marshall and Mike Wittmer, world-renown-theological-superstar N. T. Wright has written a nice little article for Christianity Today titled “Heaven is Not Our Home.”  It isn’t much new for us “Wittmer-ites,” but it is a nice reminder.

Sunday’s Coming

Be encouraged - Sunday’s coming!

Resurrection

Luke 24:1-7

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’

Let us give thanks together.

Have a joyful Resurrection Sunday!

Ben Stein has written a new movie called Expelled, due for national release on April 18.  It is a documentary on the “persecution” faced by those who are promoting Intelligent Design over and against Darwinism.  Here is a link to the movie trailer…looks like it could be a good one.
