BAM: Business as Mission

I’ve been working on my sermon all day and needed a break, so I did some reading about global missions, specifically BAM: Business as Mission.

The world of missions for North American Churches is quickly changing. Some of the key factors: Devaluing of the US Dollar, the Internet, Nationals can do the work of ministry better with less overhead (they just need mentoring and training), and the benefits of Near Culture Ministry (a Korean Believer will better impact an Eastern country than a top heavy USA Christian can - for example: language and culture are more similar).

Team Horizon highlights a newer movement of entrepreneurs who start businesses in foreign countries who seek to have an impact on missions in one of three ways (or a combination of the three) (1) support missions work, (2) use businesses as a platform for evangelism (AKA tentmaking), and (3) doing business in Kingdom enhancing ways.

If your interested read the Team Horizon article called Business as Mission about China, or visit Meixia Arts - a website of a business in China that is highlighted in the article. Or you could read How Business Glorifies God by Wayne Grudem. Or you could visit the Business as Mission Network website, and one more sight - BusinessasMission.com. If you really wanted to dive in and learn then read Great Commission Companies by Steve Rundle and Tom Steffen.
