Christians and Muslims Getting Together and Jesus takes a back seat.

My jaw dropped when I saw who signed Loving God and Neighbor Together: A Christian Response to A Common Word Between Us & You.

Piper’s video response where you can also see the pdf of Loving God and Neighbor Together: A Christian Response to A Common Word Between Us & You.

A Common Word is a website that has a document called A Common Word Between Us & You that was signed by 138 Muslim scholars. You can find a summary here. This document was presented in October of 2007 as a right hand gesture of kindness to promote that Muslims and Christians both love God and both love neighbor. On this same website is a response from over 300 Christian scholars as well as many individual responses from others both Muslims and Christians.

I agree that we should not kill each other in holy war (just the opposite - we should love each other) but Jesus takes a back seat in this discussion and I don’t like it.

To be fair, some who have signed the Christian response give reasons why on the A Common Word website, but is not good to smooth over key Christian doctrines to promote a false sense of peace. Piper’s video response(above) says it well.
What do you think?

I agree with Piper, but my concern is the type of response that will result from his blog. We need to demonstrate love for each other as followers of Jesus, correction that is full of grace and truth, and self control against slander and gossip.

    Let’s keep up this dialogue.
