Strangers and Aliens in College Football

The Ohio State Buckeyes are without question one of the greatest BCS teams in history. They are 4-1 in the BCS bowls (tied with USC for the most BCS appearances and the best record of those with 4 or more appearances). OSU was the 2002 National Champions and the 2006 National Runners-Up. So why are people so hard on Ohio State?

It could be that our coach is quiet, humble, and wears a sweater vest. It could be because we are an all-around sports powerhouse (did I mention the 2006 OSU basketball National Runner-Up?). It could be that our players consistently dominate the NFL (notice that OSU had the most first round draft picks in 2006). It could be jealousy from other Big Ten teams (who constantly complain that OSU embarrassed the Big Ten last year but who never make it to the BCS themselves). It could be a host of reasons. Fox Sports has provided a good article titled: “Ohio State Used to ‘People Hating on Us.’”

But the bottom line is, Ohio State is different. Ohio State is special. Therefore, Ohio State fans should expect criticism and hatred as we continue to pile up wins against Michigan, Big Ten titles, and BCS appearances. Just consider these “trials” as a part of being a “stranger and an alien” in a world hostile to college football excellence.

Stand firm.

Fight the good fight.

Go Bucks.

    Possible other reasons:

Maybe people don’t like the Buckeyes because their grandmothers paint their homes school colors?

Or, because their coaches are forever running out on the field slugging the opposition?

Because they fired Earle Bruce for going 8-3 or was it 8-4?

    Because they don’t allow us to dot the “i” . . .

Give me time. I’ll come up with more reasons.

But, I am loyal to the Big 10 in bowl games. I’m pulling for the Buckeyes.

Or, maybe it is because they spiritualize football?

It’s probably because they play fast and loose with the facts. OSU is actually tied for second for most BCS bowls with Oklahoma and So. Cal, all behind Florida St.
    Most BCS Games
    Florida State 6
    Oklahoma 5
    Ohio State 5
    USC 5
    Florida 4
    Miami (FL) 4
    Michigan 4

I confess my mistake…I looked over the 1-5 Florida State team (BCS record), 1-3 Michigan, and 2-3 Oklahoma. Their past performances are pretty forgettable. I guess I was comparing OSU to teams that regularly appear in and win BCS games.

I guess you could title this “Strangers and Aliens to Beating and SEC team”
